In the last few months there has been much discussion concerning the subject of marriage in the media and political circles. Is marriage only to be between man and woman? Are same-sex couples to be recognized as a legitimate marriage by the states or federal level? There must be an answer to these tough social questions. There must be a judge who can rule righteously.
“Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25). God, the designer of marriage has the answers we need. The problem with same-sex marriage is it attacks God’s word on two fronts. First, is the problem with homosexuality. God’s command found in Leviticus 18:22 reads, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination”. God’s Word calls homosexuality an abomination. Paul later writes on this subject, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie ...for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature ...And also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet ...to do things which are not convenient.”
(Romans 1:26-28).

    Secondly, same-sex marriage attacks God’s design. God intends marriage to be between man and woman, “And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him ...And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” (Genesis 2:18,22). Would God now after thousands of years change His mind? Jesus believed marriage also to be between a man and a woman. He said concerning marriage, “Man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Mark 10:7,9). God’s Word teaches us plainly not to tamper with His design. Marriage is a beautiful institution created by God. It is not up to man or his laws to decide upon the issue. Yes, God will judge sin, however He loves the sinner. He has provided salvation only through His Son Jesus Christ. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
