Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. (Isaiah 42:18)
Sadly a great multitude of souls have
heard the Gospel hundreds of times and left churches unconverted, they
willfully close their eyes and plug their ears. Look carefully at out text
above, “Hear, ye deaf”. This suggests that the spiritually deaf
could hear if they only would. God’s word is a “discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). The guilty sinner attempts to
deafen the voice of conviction to avoid the responsibility of the Truth.
As for the blind, “look...that ye may see”. Sinners close their
eyes to the light “lest his deeds should be reproved” (John 3:20). They
choose darkness over the Light because their deeds are evil (John 3:19).
The Gospel light shines into the dark souls of men and reveals the corruption
within. Consequently the sinner shuts out the glorious light of the Gospel.
Look to Jesus that you might live. Hear the Word of Life and be converted.
Listen carefully and do not turn a deaf ear from the Truth.
Many Christians are also guilty. Having
heard the Word and received it, they quickly turn a deaf ear and blind
eye. Countless have heard thousands of Gospel sermons but fail to listen
because they feel they are now exempt from the Truth or just do not care.
What a waste of time for many who have set on church pews for years and
have not grown one once in their faith. They have done more good in keeping
dust off the pew than spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God sends a
word from Heaven three times a week from His pulpit but few will be there
to listen, and even from that a smaller portion will receive it. You judge
from your own experience. Great care will often be given to hear the announcements
read or attention given to the songs that are sung. But when the time comes
for the preaching of the Word ear plugs go in and the blinds are drown
shut in your hearts. “It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to
save them that believe” (I Corinthians 1:21). God has much to say but some
are just busy or error in unbelief. Some ask, “If God would only speak
to me or give me a sign?” Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blink, that ye
may see. “God...Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son”
(Hebrew 1:1,2). “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and
we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
