The Anchor Holds

“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil.”
(Hebrews 6:19)

Our text likens Christ as “an anchor of the soul”. The storms of life may rage and the tempest blow, yet the anchor holds. There is no tragedy, sin, disappointment, heartache, or suffering that can pull us from Him. For as this anchor is unmovable so are we in Christ. Nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:39). Jesus said, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28).

This anchor is linked to us by a golden chain of faith. “For by grace are ye saved through faith.” (Ephesians 2:8).  Each link has been hardened in the furnace of God’s wrath upon Calvary. Jesus became the captain of our salvation because of the things that He suffered. Faith in the finished work of Christ eternally secures our Heavenly destination. The moment faith is applied the golden chain links our soul to Him. It is “both sure and stedfast”. Under a load this chain grows stronger. No power can sever it; it is of the purist alloy. No worldly strength can snap its mighty links.

This anchor has “entereth into that within the veil”. That is Christ has entered into the Heavenly Tabernacle to intercede for us. He is our representative in Glory. His presence there keeps us saved. This knowledge brings assurance to the soul. He has entered there in advance, as a forerunner for His holy brethren. We are linked to Him by faith and will shortly follow. Our anchor is already in Heaven’s holy port. Just a few more nights on board the "Old Ship of Zion". Soon the storm clouds will lift and faith will become sight. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face.” (I Corinthians 13:12). The light house is guiding the Church safely home. Link by link we are being drawn into His presence. Jesus prayed, “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory...” (John 17:24).
